Position Overview
Operation Technicians are directly involved with processing corn, our raw material, into sweeteners and feed products. Technicians will work in teams of two to six individuals in one of the following areas: Mill, Refinery, and Utilities.
In addition to these areas, the Operations Technician will have an opportunity to participate with others in many different specialty tasks and projects. A few examples might include participation on the Safety committee or quality improvement teams. The plant is a large manufacturing facility and technicians will be subject to performing tasks working under varying temperature extremes, some physical labor, dealing with heights, handling of chemicals, exposure to dust, some tasks that require use of a respirator, and working around a wide variety of continuous process equipment.
Principal Accountabilities:

Able to work 12-hour shift rotation, including weekends, holidays and overtime as needed. Work on-call as assigned.

Process monitoring and control.

Product sampling analysis.

Troubleshooting and maintenance of process equipment and instrumentation.

Procedures, policies and practices adherence and development.

Permit completion and coordination.

Assist in assuring efficiency of operation of equipment, quality of product, and safety of all personnel.
Technician responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following tasks:

Monitoring and controlling the various unit operations via the process control system, checking product quality and progress

Performing quality checks on raw materials, intermediate process streams, and finished products, using a variety of laboratory equipment

Performing verification and validation tasks associated with on-line instruments and control systems

Unloading raw material, loading finished products (trucks, railcars, etc), and controlling inventory in order to satisfy both internal and external customer needs.

Performing a variety of preventive/planned basic maintenance tasks on plant systems and equipment. Also being directly involved with improvement of these systems and the equipment.

Problem analysis and solution implementation on short term operational deviations and longer term plant needs.

Being responsible for the safety, food safety, sanitation, and hygiene conditions as a member of an area team, including necessary clean up and proper handling of the product and production equipment.
Schedule Expectations:
The facility runs 24 hours per day. 365 days per year. Technicians are required to work a 12-hour rotating shift (7:00 am 7:00 pm or 7:00 pm 7:00 am), with a 3 on- 3 off schedule, which will include weekends and some holidays. Rotation between the day and night shift occurs after each 3 day shift. During plant start-ups employees will be expected to work additional hours beyond the normal schedule as required and may participate in classroom type training prior to start-up phase. Additional hours will be required for safety & team meetings and other necessary training.

Qualifications:
Required:
High School education or equivalent
Ability to work overtime, holidays, nights, weekends and rotating shifts
Ability to work in an environment with dust, noise, elevated work, and varied temperatures
Ability to work with operating machinery and around heavy equipment
Ability and willingness to comply with all Cargill policies, health and safety requirements such as jewelry restrictions, the use and wearing of safety/personal protective equipment (e.g. wearing safety equipment such as hardhats, safety glasses, hearing protection, protective footwear, etc.), and following Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
Preferred:
Experience operating a forklift
Experience operating a bobcat
Experience operating a front end loader
Experience in manufacturing/production
